Gervais Moumou Accredited as Third Seychelles Ambassador to the UAE
VICTORIA, Seychelles, Ambassador Gervais Moumou, Seychelles’ resident ambassador in Abu Dhabi, presented his credentials to the President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in a ceremony at the Sea Palace in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday March 6, 2024. The presentation of credentials marked the formal start of Ambassador Moumou’s diplomatic mission in the country, and reaffirmed the close ties between the two republics. The ceremony was held in keeping with long-standing diplomatic protocol between the two friendly nations.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Moumou conveyed warm wishes of good health and prosperity on behalf of President Wavel Ramkalawan and the government of Seychelles to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, his family, and the people of the United Arab Emirates. He also expressed Seychelles’ appreciation to the UAE government for all the support extended to the country over the years, as well as his endeavour to further strengthen the excellent relations between Seychelles and the UAE. The ambassador emphasised his commitment to working with Emirati counterparts across a range of sectors for the mutual benefit of both countries.
On his part, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan highlighted the UAE’s commitment to enhancing its ties with Seychelles and other countries around the world. Diplomatic relations between Seychelles and the UAE were established on December 14, 2003, and with his accreditation, Ambassador Moumou becomes the third Seychelles ambassador to be accredited to the UAE since the opening of the Seychelles Mission in Abu Dhabi on November 24, 2011. The two leaders used the occasion to review recent cooperation and to identify new areas of partnership.
Seychelles and the UAE have ongoing cooperation in many fields, notably education, culture, health, housing, capacity building, police, and renewable energy, among others. Both sides have also worked together on issues of regional importance, including maritime security, climate change and the development of renewable energy sources. The growing relationship is seen as a key pillar of Seychelles’ broader engagement with the Gulf region and a platform for attracting investment and technical assistance.
Also present at the ceremony were the vice-president, deputy prime minister and chairman of the Presidential Court of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and other high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UAE. The presence of such senior figures underscored the importance both countries attach to the relationship. Ambassador Moumou’s accreditation is expected to give fresh momentum to ongoing cooperation and to open new avenues for collaboration in trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges.
