Minister Pierre Visits La Digue School to Engage Teachers on Education Priorities

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Minister for Education, Dr Justin Pierre, undertook a working visit to La Digue school on Friday to engage directly with teachers, school leaders, and education partners on issues affecting teaching, learning, and student welfare on the island. The visit formed part of the ministry’s continuing effort to strengthen engagement with schools in the inner islands and to better understand the day-to-day realities faced by educators and learners outside Mahé.

During the meeting, teachers raised a number of concerns related to resources, classroom support, and the transition pathways available to students after secondary school. Minister Pierre acknowledged the dedication of teachers on La Digue and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to working with the school administration to address the issues raised. He also outlined a vision for schools to play a stronger role in preparing young people for life after graduation, with a focus on equipping them to return home and to society as well-rounded young people with real opportunities to develop their potential.

‘We are preparing them to take over tomorrow, to become responsible citizens who can contribute to the socioeconomic development of Seychelles. This is what parents want, and this is what we want as well. I call on the community to join us so that we can work together, as it will benefit our children, teachers, society, and the future of Seychelles,’ the minister said. Minister Pierre has promised to return to La Digue school, following a request from teachers during the meeting. The visit was seen as a positive step in strengthening the partnership between the ministry and the La Digue school community.
