President Herminie Marks International Mens Day with Call to Support Men and Boys

VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Patrick Herminie has marked International Men’s Day, observed on November 19, with a message recognising the contributions of men and boys in Seychelles, while also acknowledging the unique challenges they face. ‘Allow me to extend my warmest greetings to all the men and boys of our nation. This day calls for celebration of you, our fathers and sons, brothers and friends, colleagues and mentors, who contribute greatly to the foundation of our society,’ the President said.

International Men’s Day has been observed annually on November 19 since 1999, reminding societies of the need to recognise the positive contributions that men make toward their families, communities, and nations, while also acknowledging the challenges they face. This year’s theme, ‘Celebrating Men and Boys’, calls on everyone to honour the successes and humanity of the men who shape our world.

President Herminie said that the day must also be one of acknowledgment. ‘We know that men and boys face unique challenges that deserve our attention and support. Too often, societal expectations discourage men from seeking help, expressing vulnerability, or putting their mental and emotional wellbeing first. Too many young men struggle to find their way or feel they must face their challenges alone. This must change. Real strength includes the wisdom to ask for help when needed,’ he stated. The President called on fathers, mentors, friends, colleagues, and communities to play their part in building a Seychelles where every man and boy feels guided, supported, and valued to live with dignity and purpose.
