Minister Camille Visits Key Police Units and Prisons Facilities

VICTORIA, Seychelles — As part of his ongoing familiarisation programme, the Minister for Homeland Security and Civil Affairs, James Camille, carried out an extensive series of visits across several core units of the Seychelles Police Force and Seychelles Prisons Service on Tuesday. The minister’s visit covered a wide range of departments and operational sites, including the Seychelles Police Headquarters, the Anti-Terrorism/Quick Response Unit, the Marine Police Unit, the Financial Crime Intelligence Unit (FCIU), the Commercial Crime and Compliance Unit, the Perseverance Police Station, and the Perseverance Remand Centre.

Minister Camille also toured the construction site of the new Marine Police building, which forms part of the ongoing infrastructure upgrades within the Police Force. Throughout the familiarisation tour, the minister engaged directly with officers and staff, listening to their experiences and gaining first-hand insight into their day-to-day operations, challenges, and resource needs. A central focus of his discussions was the wellbeing and welfare of police officers and personnel, acknowledging the vital role they play in maintaining national safety and public order.

The minister also highlighted the urgent need to update and strengthen existing laws to ensure that police officers can conduct their duties more effectively, especially in areas such as organised crime, financial crime, cyber security, and counter-terrorism. He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to providing a modern and supportive legislative environment that aligns with the current security landscape. He noted that enhancing the effectiveness of law-enforcement agencies requires a combination of improved working conditions, investment in infrastructure, and legislative reforms that reflect the realities faced by front-line officers.
