D-CLIC Digital Training Programme Empowers Seychellois Youth
VICTORIA, Seychelles — A group of young people gathered on Friday for the second activity of the D-CLIC programme ‘Train in digital with the International Organisation of La Francophonie’, held at the National Library of Seychelles. The activity was coordinated by Madame Catherine Dubreuil, expert in economic development and innovation, and D-CLIC programme expert for the OIF.
Under the theme ‘Tech and Youth’, the young participants had the opportunity to express their views on technology. The aim was to gather their needs and expectations in terms of training for digital professions and to foster dialogue between young talents, trainers, and sector stakeholders. Two students from the Seychelles Institute of Technology — Aakash Sekar and Dante Lespoir — shared their views on the activity. ‘Frankly, this subject is really interesting, but we have some barriers to expressing ourselves in French, because it is not an easy language,’ they stated. Dante added that, in his view, the concept of relearning French is not worth the effort, as he himself faces difficulties separating the Creole language from French.
Achille Anacoura, another young person who recently completed his post-secondary studies, affirmed that this activity is a really excellent idea. ‘I am a person passionate about technology and I think this activity is really interesting, although the barrier of expression in French is an obstacle,’ he said. Speaking to the media, the Secretary General of the National Francophonie Commission, Madame Miera Savy, explained the purpose of the exercise in more detail. ‘This programme aims to improve the professional integration of French-speaking women and young people,’ she said, adding that it is essential that young Seychellois understand that French represents an opportunity that can open many doors, as with digital skills, the world belongs to them.
