Latter-day Saints Apostle Elder Rasband Meets Vice President Pillay at State House

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints met with Vice President Sebastien Pillay on Friday at State House, in a spirit of mutual respect and shared values. The meeting underscored the Church’s commitment to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to God’s children in Seychelles.

Elder Rasband was accompanied by Elder Kevin R. Duncan and Elder Thierry K. Mutombo of the Seventy, President Onekawa of the Kenya Nairobi East Mission, and Elder and Sister Healy. The visit forms part of Elder Rasband’s ministry in the Africa Central Area, and provides an opportunity to strengthen ties of faith and friendship between the Church and the government of Seychelles.

During the meeting, Elder Rasband presented copies of the Book of Mormon to Vice President Pillay. Discussions focused on the values that bind families and communities, the importance of moral and spiritual education for young people, and the role of faith-based organisations in supporting social cohesion.

The visit by the senior Church leader reflects the continuing engagement between The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Republic of Seychelles, and reinforces the principles of religious freedom, mutual respect, and partnership that the new administration has committed to uphold. The Church has had a presence in Seychelles for several years, with members gathering regularly for worship and community service across the islands.
