VICTORIA, Seychelles — For his first round of diplomatic meetings since being sworn in as the new President of the Republic, Dr Patrick Herminie received several visiting foreign leaders at State House on Monday. Among them was the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, who expressed his satisfaction at being the first head of government to make an official visit under the new presidency, saluting the historical and fraternal ties that unite Mauritius and the Seychelles.

‘I am very happy to be the first head of government to make an official visit under the presidency of Dr Patrick Herminie. I would like to congratulate him on his victory, a victory well deserved,’ Prime Minister Ramgoolam said. The two leaders discussed bilateral cooperation, with PM Ramgoolam also welcoming the renewal of the 2017 fishing agreement, a domain in which collaboration remains constructive.

He also announced the upcoming Mauritius–Seychelles Joint Commission, scheduled for the coming year, which will aim to strengthen cooperation in several sectors, notably maritime security, agriculture, and technical exchanges. The two leaders, he said, are also working very closely in the region, particularly on maritime security, the fight against drugs, and the management of resources. PM Ramgoolam finally addressed an official invitation to President Herminie and his team for a visit to Mauritius, in the framework of strengthening bilateral relations.

Among the other visiting dignitaries present were the Vice President of the Republic of India, Chandrapuram Ponnusami Radhakrishnan; Oskar Benedikt, Ambassador of the European Union to Seychelles; Ms Anne Tallineau, Ambassador of France to Seychelles; and Mr Gao Yunlong, vice chairperson of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
