Belonie Secondary School Wins 40th Festival Kreol Inter-School Discourse Competition
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Belonie Secondary School has been crowned the overall winner of the inter-school discourse competition held as part of the 40th Festival Kreol celebrations currently taking place this October. The competition was held on Tuesday afternoon at the National Theatre, Mont Fleuri. Praslin Secondary School took second place, while Plaisance Secondary School came third. In total, five secondary schools took part in the competition, including Anse Boileau and Anse Royale.
Among the five teams, three were selected for the grand final. Each team comprised a chairperson, a main speaker and a second speaker, and each group had a total of 15 minutes to deliver their presentation. There was also a prize for the best speaker, which went to Steve Alcindor of Belonie Secondary School. Speaking after the announcement, Steve said he and his colleagues had been working on the company ‘Eboo’, and that the team had done extensive research, including visiting the company and consulting social media platforms to put their presentation together.
The competition, which forms part of the official programme of Festival Kreol, is designed to promote public-speaking skills and a deeper understanding of the Creole language, culture and the values of entrepreneurship and self-reliance among young people. The Festival Kreol committee congratulated all the schools that took part and noted that the high standard of presentations this year reflects the strong interest of Seychellois youth in preserving and promoting the country’s cultural heritage.
