US Supporters Celebrate Herminie Victory Across Mahe

VICTORIA, Seychelles — United Seychelles supporters took to the streets of Victoria and beyond on Sunday afternoon, celebrating Dr Patrick Herminie’s victory in the presidential election runoff following the announcement of results by the Electoral Commission at Mont Fleuri.
From early in the day, supporters gathered at the party’s headquarters United Square and in front of the Maison Du Peuple, where the largest celebration unfolded. Dressed in the party colours and carrying the symbols that have marked the movement since 1964, supporters sang, danced and cheered for more than five hours to mark United Seychelles’ return to government after five years in opposition.
President-elect Dr Patrick Herminie addressed the gathering, announcing that his public inauguration will take place on October 26. He thanked supporters for their discipline during the campaign and called on all citizens, including those who voted for his opponent, to come together in the national interest.
The celebration, which spread to districts across Mahé, was marked by music, dancing and the waving of party flags. Similar gatherings were held on Praslin and La Digue, completing a national outpouring of support for the incoming administration.
