Laliberté Party Names Allan Dogley as New Vice-Presidential Candidate

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Laliberté political party has named Allan Dogley as its new vice-presidential candidate, replacing Patrick Deiss alongside presidential candidate Vincent Padayachy for the September 2025 elections. Mr Dogley is the party’s secretary general, while Mr Deiss is its chairman. The change was announced by Mr Padayachy during a press conference held yesterday morning at the party’s headquarters at the Unique Building, Providence Industrial Estate.

The swap became necessary after it was discovered, through the party’s administrative officer, that Mr Deiss’ name was not on the voters’ register, six days after the register had been closed on July 19, 2025. According to the senior legal officer, Florie Benstrong, the Commission has no record of Mr Deiss being registered as a voter in the 2015, 2016, 2018 or 2020 registers, and the Commission’s verification obligations under Section 5(6) apply to the details of registered members listed under Section 5(2)(c), not to office bearers listed pursuant to Section 5(2)(d). Mr Padayachy said the party took the blame for the oversight but stressed that, given the importance of the candidates, the electoral commission as an advisory body should have alerted them on the case.

Mr Padayachy noted that it was too late to make any corrections, and that the party had no choice but to proceed with the replacement. Mr Dogley, who now must relinquish his position as the potential National Assembly candidate for Anse Aux Pins, expressed that while he was honoured to have been selected, he was saddened by the fact that many people in Anse Aux Pins had placed their trust in him to represent them. The party is now one candidate short out of six for the National Assembly elections. The Chief Electoral Officer, Sheena Max, added that there is no statutory requirement for a person becoming an office bearer of a political party to be a registered voter, but said the practice supports civic engagement and the Commission advises all office bearers to take the necessary steps to be on the register.
