Seychelles Hosts 26th Assembly of Indian Ocean Episcopal Conference

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles is hosting the 26th Assembly of the Conférence Épiscopale de l’Océan Indien (CEDOI), a major event for the Catholic Church in the region. The crucial meeting, themed ‘Synodality and Digital Mission’, is being held from Tuesday 22 to Friday 25 July 2025 at Beau-Voir, in the presence of Monsignor Tomasz Grysa, the Apostolic Nuncio (the Pope’s Representative).
The following bishops are present for the assembly: Monsignor Jean-Michel Durhone (Mauritius), the Cardinal Emeritus Maurice Piat (Mauritius), Monsignor Michel Moura (Rodrigues), Monsignor Charles Mahuza Yava (Comoros), Monsignor Pascal Chane Teng (Reunion), Bishop Emeritus Monsignor Gilbert Aubry (Reunion) and Monsignor Alain Harel (Seychelles). The CEDOI brings together the Catholic bishops of the Indian Ocean region for prayer, dialogue and pastoral planning.
Discussions at the assembly will focus on the theme of synodality and digital mission, exploring how the Church in the region can better respond to the challenges and opportunities presented by the digital era. The hosting of the 26th CEDOI in Seychelles reflects the country’s important role in the regional Catholic community, and the assembly is expected to produce a number of pastoral recommendations for the coming years.
