Outgoing Norwegian Ambassador Holm Bids Farewell to President Ramkalawan

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Outgoing ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, Gunnar Andreas Holm, paid a farewell courtesy call on President Wavel Ramkalawan at State House yesterday afternoon, marking the end of his three-year diplomatic tenure in Seychelles. The two leaders reviewed the steady development of bilateral relations across the blue economy, maritime security, and cooperation in international fora.
Ambassador Holm described the partnership between the two coastal and fishing nations as having ‘gone from strength to strength’, noting their shared work through the High-Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy. He also pointed to Norway’s support for satellite tracking systems that help Seychelles monitor illegal fishing and drug trafficking in its vast waters, calling the collaboration ‘a partnership built on mutual strengths’.
Climate change, plastic pollution and marine litter also featured prominently in the conversation. Both leaders emphasised the importance of standing together for the rules-based international order, whether in relation to Ukraine, Gaza or Sudan. The ambassador extended an invitation for President Ramkalawan to visit Norway and joked about experiencing the country’s winter. After a holiday, Ambassador Holm will spend five months at Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs before retiring.
