President Ramkalawan Calls on Seychellois to Build a Stronger, More Beautiful Nation

VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Wavel Ramkalawan has called on Seychellois to mark the country’s 49th Independence Anniversary by recommitting themselves to the values that have sustained the nation since 1976. In his National Day message, the President said the Constitution remains the compass that guides the country towards a better future.

‘My greatest prayer is that we remain united as one people, one nation, wherever we are. Our hearts beat for our beautiful Seychelles,’ the President said. He reminded citizens that the sacrifices of the founding generation were not made in vain, and that the responsibility for protecting sovereignty now rests with the present generation.

The President cautioned against complacency and division, urging Seychellois to confront the challenges of the day with the same courage that characterised the forefathers. He emphasised the importance of defending democratic institutions and individual freedoms, which he described as the bedrock of national identity. The President also expressed gratitude to those serving in the public service and private sector, and to the diaspora communities keeping the Seychellois flag raised abroad.
