Sabry Khan Appointed Director General of Seychelles Intelligence Service

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Sabry Khan appointment as Director General of the Seychelles Intelligence Service (SIS) was announced by the Office of the President, effective January 6, 2026. This appointment follows recommendations made by the National Security Council and consultations with the Defence and Security Committee of the National Assembly, in accordance with the provisions of the Seychelles Intelligence Service Act of 2018. On Monday January 5, the Defence and Security Committee, chaired by Hon. Audrey Vidot, convened to deliberate on the President’s nomination of Mr Khan before his formal appointment.
The significance of this appointment extends throughout Seychelles’ national security apparatus, where the Director General plays a crucial coordinating role across intelligence and law enforcement agencies. The SIS is mandated to establish mechanisms for detecting threats to the security of Seychelles and its institutions, and to safeguard national security in collaboration with law enforcement agencies and public institutions. Members of the Defence and Security Committee noted Mr Khan’s professional work experience, legal background, academic training, and competencies in defence, security, and intelligence as key qualifications for this sensitive position.
Mr Khan brings extensive experience in national security, law enforcement, and intelligence operations spanning senior leadership roles. His career includes positions within the Seychelles Police Force, Air Seychelles, and the Seychelles Airport Authority, where he worked closely with international affiliations within the field of security and intelligence. This diverse background provides him with comprehensive understanding of the operational, legal, and administrative dimensions of national security work, as well as established networks with both domestic agencies and international partners.
The committee reviewed Mr Khan’s nomination, considering his professional work experience, legal background, academic training, and competencies in defence, security, and intelligence as central to their deliberations. Members also noted his national and international security expertise, his collaborative approach with law enforcement agencies, and his understanding of the institutional complexities inherent in intelligence work. The appointment process itself reflects Seychelles’ commitment to transparency in senior security appointments while maintaining appropriate confidentiality regarding operational matters.
The government has expressed confidence that Mr Khan’s appointment will strengthen the country’s intelligence capabilities and enhance the protection of Seychelles’ sovereignty and institutions. As part of his programme, Mr Khan also met with the Governor of the Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS) Caroline Abel, and senior officials from key ministries engaged in national security planning. He has a strong background in aviation security, intelligence coordination, and strategic risk management. He has also been given the mandate to coordinate with national security institutions to protect critical infrastructure and national interests.
