President Herminie Extends Eid al-Fitr Greetings to the Muslim Community

VICTORIA: President Patrick Herminie has issued an official message of peace and solidarity to the Muslim community in Seychelles as they celebrate Eid al-Fitr, marking the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan.

In his address, the President emphasized the values of reflection, discipline, and charity that define the month of fasting. He noted that the celebration of Eid is not only a significant religious milestone for Muslims but also a moment for the entire nation to recognize the diverse cultural threads that strengthen Seychellois society.

Commending Spiritual Commitment

The President commended the community for its devotion throughout the period of Ramadan, a time dedicated to prayer and self-sacrifice. He highlighted that the spiritual resilience shown by the faithful serves as an inspiration for national unity and mutual respect.

“The devotion shown during the holy month reflects a profound commitment to the values of compassion and humility,” the President stated. “These are universal principles that resonate deeply within our broader Seychellois identity.”

Recognizing Social and Cultural Contributions

A key theme of the President’s message was the active role the Muslim community plays in the national fabric. He recognized their long-standing contributions to the social, economic, and cultural development of the country. From business and education to community service and philanthropy, the President noted that the community remains a vital partner in the nation’s progress.

He specifically pointed to the spirit of “Zakat” (charity), noting how the community’s efforts to support the less fortunate during this period align with the government’s goals of social inclusivity and welfare.

A Message of National Unity

As the festivities begin, President Herminie called on all citizens to join in the spirit of the holiday by fostering an environment of tolerance and brotherhood. He reiterated that Seychelles’ strength lies in its ability to celebrate different faiths and traditions under a single national identity.

The message concluded with the President wishing all Muslim families a peaceful and joyous celebration shared with loved ones. “May this Eid bring renewed hope, harmony, and prosperity to your homes and to our beloved Seychelles,” the statement read.

Eid al-Fitr is observed across the islands with communal prayers and family gatherings, marking a day of joy and thanksgiving after thirty days of spiritual journey.
