Minister Zialor Addresses Burst Pipe Under Stad Linite Track

Minister for Youth, Sports and Family, Marie-Celine Zialor, has formally addressed the issue of the burst water pipe beneath the synthetic track at Stad Linite, confirming that repair works and technical investigations are currently underway.

The matter was raised during Tuesday’s session of the National Assembly through a Private Notice Question submitted by Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Sebastien Pillay. The session began with a slight delay following what Deputy Speaker Hon. Gervais Henrie described as an “incident” involving Hon. Pillay. Proceedings resumed at 11:38 a.m. with the PNQ.

Hon. Pillay called on the minister to explain what he described as the “poor condition” of the synthetic track. In her response, Minister Zialor began by questioning the tone and phrasing of the query before affirming that the ministry is actively working to identify the full extent of the damage and implement necessary repairs.

“Our preliminary assessments show that the problem lies beneath the surface layer, where a burst pipe has compromised the track’s integrity,” said Minister Zialor. “We are working with experts to ensure that any repair undertaken is comprehensive and sustainable.”

The timeline for full restoration of the track has not yet been confirmed. However, the Minister noted that temporary measures may be considered to ensure athletes can continue to train while permanent solutions are developed.

The synthetic track, located at Seychelles’ premier national stadium, has faced criticism in recent months due to visible wear and interruptions in scheduled sporting activities. The issue now appears to be gaining traction at the highest political levels as the country prepares for upcoming sporting events, including the CJSOI Games.

As stakeholders await the results of the ongoing assessment, questions remain about long-term maintenance and infrastructure funding in Seychelles’ sporting sector.
