President Herminie Reaffirms Government Commitment to Deliver Over 2,000 Affordable Homes Within Five Years
President of the Republic Dr. Patrick Herminie yesterday inaugurated a new mid-range condominium development at Ile Perseverance, where 32 families received keys to their new homes. Completed in just 15 months after breaking ground in March 2024, the project represents a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to expand affordable housing access for Seychellois families.
Named Coastal Breeze Residence by its residents, the condominium complex has been constructed on reclaimed land at Ile Perseverance. The development marks a pioneering collaboration between the Department of Housing and the private sector, with Vijay Construction serving as the primary contractor. Prospective homeowners secured financing independently through their respective banks, while the government facilitated the project by providing land under an Express Lease arrangement.
During his remarks at the official opening ceremony, President Herminie underscored the centrality of housing development to the nation’s social agenda. “Development of housing for our people remains a sacred element in our social programme, and we will always pursue it with dedication,” he stated.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s pledge to deliver over 2,000 affordable homes within the next five years, as outlined in the United Seychelles manifesto. “We will complete our affordable housing projects, including condominium developments on this island and on Aurore Island, where we plan to build several modern apartment-style housing units to meet the needs of our people,” he added.
The ceremony drew a distinguished gathering, including First Lady Mrs. Veronique Herminie; members of the National Assembly; the Principal Secretary for the Department of Housing; new homeowners and their families; Department of Housing staff; and other notable guests.
Ile Perseverance National Assembly Member Hon. Keneth Athanase congratulated the new residents and encouraged them to foster good neighborly relations, promote unity, and practice tolerance within their community.
The event featured performances by primary school children, who presented songs and poems celebrating the values of community and good neighborliness. The programme concluded with President Herminie touring the newly completed apartments.
