VICTORIA, Seychelles — Minister for Fisheries and the Blue Economy, Jean-François Ferrari, has launched a national tuna fish grading system at L’Escalier Resort, in a move that is expected to put the country at the forefront of fisheries quality assurance. The new system, developed in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization, provides a clear, transparent, and standardised way of grading tuna fish.
The Minister urged all stakeholders in the fisheries sector to support the new system, noting that the absence of a clear grading standard puts over fish quality and value. ‘These issues not only affect our export markets but also the reputation of Seychelles as a trusted source of high-quality tuna,’ said Minister Ferrari.
Officials explained that the first workshop on the new system will take place before involving local and international stakeholders, with the goal of ensuring that the system is widely understood and consistently applied. The Minister thanked all those who contributed to the development of the system and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the country’s blue economy.
