Interpol Touches Down in Paradise: Seychelles Hosts High-Level Cybercrime Workshop for Africa

Yesterday morning, the usually tranquil setting of the Savoy conference room was transformed into a strategic nerve centre for cyber defence. Seychelles took the digital frontlines by storm as it hosted a high-stakes cybercrime workshop bringing together top minds from across Africa.

The session—led by Interpol Africa’s Cybercrime Operations Desk and backed by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office under the AFCHAC project—was no ordinary gathering. It brought together law enforcement, digital security experts, and policy officials with one unified goal: to strengthen cross-border collaboration and boost intelligence-sharing in the escalating fight against cybercrime.

“As cyber threats grow more sophisticated, international cooperation is no longer optional—it’s essential,” remarked one official involved in the workshop.

The event focused on operational capacity-building, real-time coordination, and strategies for rapid response to cyberattacks that don’t respect borders. From ransomware to financial fraud, phishing to online exploitation—nothing was off the table.

For Seychelles, hosting such a high-level gathering reaffirms its growing status as a serious player on the global cybersecurity stage, despite its small size.

In a world where the next big heist could be digital—and just one click away—this workshop was a timely reminder that our paradise isn’t just guarding its beaches anymore. It’s guarding its bandwidth too.
