SLTA Outlines R292.7 Million in Ongoing and New Projects for 2025

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Seychelles Land Transport Agency (SLTA) has given a general overview of all its ongoing and new projects for this year, which will be funded under its R292.7 million budget. The agency’s chief executive, Parinda Herath, gave details of these projects to the media yesterday during a press conference at the agency’s headquarters. Mr Herath said from this overall budget, a total of R127.1 million has been allocated for capital expenditure projects and R46.4 million for asphalting work.

He added that a sum of R21.9 million has been budgeted for road maintenance projects, which are minor projects to repair damage to road infrastructure. The SLTA’s head said all these projects are on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. ‘These capital projects include new roads, road improvements, and those that have to do with the resurfacing of roads and various other works such as installation of crash barriers,’ he stated. There is a whole list of projects that the agency has started, some since last year and ongoing, with others in the preparatory phases.

Mr Herath also spoke about the damage caused by companies that have utility infrastructure under the roads, such as PUC and telecommunication firms. He said SLTA insists that when new utilities are being installed, they do so outside the road network. As for the Pointe Larue road, since it is in a low-lying area, when heavy rainfall coincides with high tide, the area will flood. SLTA is working in close collaboration with other partners to find projects that can mitigate the flooding and improve drainage.
