Seychelles Becomes First Country to Attain ‘Compliant’ Status Under Fisheries Transparency Initiative

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Fisheries Transparency Initiative (FiTI) International Board has recognised Seychelles’ efforts in implementing the FiTI Standard, awarding the country an overall ‘compliant’ score in the second validation covering the period from January 2023 to July 2024. This achievement makes Seychelles the first country in FiTI’s history to attain ‘compliant’ status with the FiTI Standard.

Out of the 14 affiliated countries with a Validated National MSG, the FiTI International Board reviewed Seychelles’ submission and confirmed that the country meets all the requirements of the Standard. The validation process assesses whether countries are making public information about their fisheries sector in a manner that is credible, accessible, and consistent with the FiTI Standard.

Minister for Fisheries and the Blue Economy, Jean-François Ferrari, flanked by members of the Seychelles’ FiTI National Multi-Stakeholder Group, welcomed the recognition. The achievement underlines Seychelles’ position as a regional leader in fisheries transparency and supports the country’s commitment to responsible, sustainable management of its marine resources. The ‘compliant’ status will remain valid for a period of three years, subject to ongoing reporting requirements.
