Commissioner of Police Attends Regional Conference on Drug Trafficking in Réunion

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Commissioner of Police Godfra Hermitte participated in the Conference of Chiefs of Police of the Southern Indian Ocean, held in Saint Denis, Reunion from April 21 to 22, 2026, strengthening regional cooperation in tackling transnational crime and drug trafficking. The Seychelles police regional conference brought together law enforcement leaders from across the region to share best practices and develop joint strategies against drug trafficking networks.

Key areas of discussion included sharing best practices among regional police forces, enhancing operational cooperation in cross-border crime prevention, and developing joint strategies against drug trafficking networks that operate across the Southern Indian Ocean region. The conference provided a platform for police chiefs to coordinate efforts and align approaches to common security challenges facing island nations in the region.

Commissioner Hermitte’s participation highlights Seychelles’ strong commitment to regional collaboration in tackling transnational crime and safeguarding public safety. The Southern Indian Ocean region faces particular challenges with drug trafficking given the vast maritime spaces and multiple transit routes used by criminal networks operating between Africa, Asia, and other regions.

The Commissioner was accompanied at the conference by Chief Superintendent Jemmy Bouzin. Their participation reflects the Seychelles Police Force’s ongoing engagement with regional law enforcement bodies and its commitment to international cooperation in combating serious and organised crime.

Regional police cooperation is essential for small island states like Seychelles, which rely on strong partnerships with neighbouring countries to effectively combat transnational crime. The conference outcomes are expected to contribute to enhanced information sharing and operational coordination among Indian Ocean police forces.

Commissioner Hermitte’s attendance at the Réunion conference reinforces Seychelles’ role in regional security cooperation.
