Dance Wave Competition Launches to Showcase Seychelles Dance Talent

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Dance Wave competition has launched in Seychelles with its first audition held at the ex-National Assembly Hall, bringing together 14 dance groups from across the islands. The Seychelles Dance Academy, in collaboration with the Danny Faure Foundation, hosted the inaugural audition yesterday morning, marking the vibrant launch of a new platform for local talent in the performing arts community.

The Dance Wave competition aims to empower young dancers by giving them space to express themselves, build confidence, and gain exposure. By partnering with the Danny Faure Foundation, the Seychelles Dance Academy reinforces its commitment to youth development and artistic growth. The atmosphere brimmed with energy and anticipation as teams delivered dynamic performances before a judging panel comprising Patrina Jeanne, Alexander Renee, Denis Rose, Daniella Rose-Barbe, and Fabrice Large.

Judge Denis Rose expressed his enthusiasm at being part of the initiative. The competition will unfold in two phases: the audition stage, with results to be announced in the first week of March, followed by the finals in July. Organisers aimed to limit the number of stages so dancers have adequate time to prepare and deliver their utmost on stage. Among the groups, HeartBeat Latin and Dance Studio stepped into competition for the first time.

The Diamond Dancers expressed relief and satisfaction after their performance, with group member Keryl Tamboo sharing that what truly matters is delivering every performance with one hundred percent effort. The auditions revealed both strong participation and high-calibre performances across multiple dance styles.

With results due in March, anticipation is high as teams await their chance to advance to the finals in July. More than just a competition, Dance Wave highlights the growing dance culture in Seychelles and underscores the importance of providing constructive, creative opportunities for young people.

Dance Wave marks a significant milestone for Seychelles’ performing arts community.
