President Herminie Appoints Three New Members to National Unity Committee

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The President of the Republic, Dr Patrick Herminie, has announced the appointment of three new members to the National Unity Committee, effective January 4, 2026. The appointments reflect the government’s commitment to broad societal representation in the work of national unity, drawing on diverse perspectives from faith-based institutions, civil society, and experienced national leaders.

This expansion of the National Unity Committee holds significant importance for ordinary Seychellois as it demonstrates the government’s recognition that national unity requires inclusive dialogue across all sectors of society. The committee serves as a vital mechanism for reconciliation and social cohesion, addressing issues that affect communities at the grassroots level. The appointments signal that the government values diverse voices in shaping the nation’s path forward.

The newly appointed members are Bishop Danny Elizabeth, representing the Seychelles Interfaith Council SIFCO; Dr Odile Decomarmond, chairperson of the Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles CEPS; and Ambassador Marie-Pierre Lloyd, former member of the Council of Elders. These appointments bring together religious, civil society, and diplomatic expertise to the committee’s work.

The National Unity Committee is chaired by former President Danny Faure, who was appointed on November 17, 2025. President Herminie expressed confidence that the committee will work constructively with all stakeholders and institutions to advance national unity, reconciliation, and social cohesion. The President also noted that the chairperson of the successor entity to the LUNGOS will be formally appointed to the Committee once the relevant Bill has been approved by the National Assembly, ensuring continuity between transitional justice processes and the broader national unity agenda.

The National Unity Committee plays a crucial role in fostering dialogue and understanding among different communities in Seychelles. By including representatives from religious organisations and civil society platforms, the committee ensures that its recommendations reflect the diverse perspectives of the Seychellois population. The government has reaffirmed its full support for the committee as it undertakes this important national responsibility.

The appointments strengthen the committee’s capacity to address challenges facing the nation through inclusive and collaborative approaches.
