VICTORIA, Seychelles — Minister for Transport, Ports and Civil Aviation Veronique Laporte has completed a two-day familiarisation visit to Praslin, gaining first-hand insight into the operations, infrastructure, staff welfare and future development plans of entities under her portfolio on the island.
The minister was accompanied by the principal secretary for Land Transport, Patrick Andre; the principal secretary for Ports and Civil Aviation, David Bianchi; and the executive director to the minister, Vanessa Marie.
The visit commenced at the Praslin Jetty, where the minister was received by the chief executive of the Seychelles Ports Authority, Sony Payet. The delegation toured key port facilities including the Ero passenger terminal, Kato Nwar Island Development and the Eve Island cargo facilities, engaging directly with staff on the ground.
Minister Laporte was briefed on planned commercial developments at the port, which are expected to generate new opportunities for both small and large businesses on Praslin. She also met local entrepreneurs and taxi operators, recognising their important role within the island’s transport and economic landscape.
The visit forms part of the minister’s broader familiarisation programme aimed at strengthening service delivery across the transport and ports sector, and identifying priority areas for investment and reform in the year ahead.
