VICTORIA, Seychelles — Justice Mathilda Twomey was yesterday sworn in as the commissioner for the newly established Commission of Inquiry into the Sublease and Development of Assomption Island.
The brief ceremony took place yesterday morning at State House and was officiated by President Dr Patrick Herminie. Justice Twomey took her oath and signed the official documents to formalise her appointment. The event was attended by Vice-President Sebastien Pillay, State House officials, and members of the press.
Justice Twomey, a judge of the Court of Appeal, was appointed following a declaration made by President Herminie in the National Assembly in November 2025 to establish a commission of inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the construction of a tourism establishment in an extremely sensitive biosecurity area on Assomption.
The commission is expected to examine all aspects of the sublease arrangements and the development decisions taken, with the aim of establishing the facts and making recommendations to government.
