VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) held a special ceremony on Tuesday at the Military Training and Support Centre, Île Perseverance, to commemorate Seychelles Defence Forces Day. The event brought together officers, recruits, and invited guests for a morning of demonstrations, tributes, and reflection on the SDF’s role in safeguarding the nation. Commander-in-Chief President Patrick Herminie commended the men and women of the force for their dedication and service.
The day marks the moment, 44 years ago, when members of the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces (SPDF) protected the integrity and security of the nation during a grave threat to its sovereignty. In a message issued on the occasion, President Herminie paid tribute to those who stood firm in defence of the country, and acknowledged the continued dedication, sacrifice, and professionalism of all those who safeguard the sovereignty, peace, and security of the Republic.
The President emphasised that the strength of the SDF lies not only in its operational capabilities but equally in the integrity and unity of its personnel. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the continuous professional and technical development, wellbeing, and empowerment of defence officers, recognising their indispensable role in maintaining Seychelles as a secure and resilient nation. He also highlighted evolving challenges of national security, including maritime protection, disaster response, and emerging forms of transnational threats.
