VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles made its mark at this year’s International Cultural Night 2025 held at SEGi University in Malaysia, standing out among 14 participating countries. The Seychelles team captured first place for ‘Best Choreography’ and also claimed second runner-up in the ‘Food Fair competition’.
Leading the team was Neesha Barbe, Seychelles’ student ambassador at SEGi University, who, along with her fellow Seychellois students, proudly showcased the nation’s vibrant Creole culture through dance, music, and cuisine. The team’s performance blended traditional Moutya and Séga rhythms with contemporary choreography, drawing an enthusiastic response from the audience and judges alike. The food fair entry featured classic Seychellois dishes, allowing visitors to sample flavours from the islands.
Speaking about the achievement, Ms Barbe noted that the experience was about more than winning awards. ‘It was about sharing who we are as Seychellois, our heritage, and the warmth of our culture with people from across the world,’ she said. The annual International Cultural Night brings together students from a wide range of countries to celebrate diversity, and the strong showing by the Seychellois contingent has been praised as a reflection of the depth of talent among young Seychellois studying abroad. The students are expected to bring back what they have learned to support local cultural initiatives.
