Seychelles and UNFPA Sign 2026-2030 Country Programme Document

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Government of Seychelles and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) have signed the 2026–2030 Country Programme Document, setting out a five-year framework for cooperation on population dynamics, sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, and youth empowerment. The signing marks the formal start of the new programme cycle, which will guide joint interventions across the country.

The new Country Programme was developed in close consultation with government ministries, civil society, and development partners. It identifies key priorities, including strengthening the availability of high-quality sexual and reproductive health services, addressing gender-based violence, supporting adolescent and youth development, and producing robust data for evidence-based policy. The document also emphasises the importance of building resilience and inclusive growth, particularly for vulnerable groups.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, senior government officials noted that the partnership with UNFPA has been instrumental in advancing Seychelles’ national development goals, particularly in the areas of health, gender, and demographic resilience. They added that the new programme would help consolidate the country’s progress in these areas while addressing emerging challenges, including those linked to an ageing population and youth unemployment.

The UNFPA reiterated its commitment to supporting Seychelles in delivering the programme, working closely with national stakeholders, and ensuring that no one is left behind. The 2026–2030 Country Programme Document will be tabled in the National Assembly for further endorsement, and is expected to guide joint activities and funding allocations over the next five years.
