Sebastien Pillay Sworn In as Seychelles’ Sixth and Youngest Vice-President

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Sebastien Pillay took both the oath of allegiance and the vice-presidential oath at State House on Tuesday morning to officially become the sixth and youngest Vice-President of Seychelles at 47. He takes over the role from former Vice President Ahmed Afif, who served during the previous administration under President Wavel Ramkalawan.

Mr Pillay will serve alongside President Dr Patrick Herminie, who was sworn in as the country’s sixth President the previous day. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by senior government officials, family members, members of the diplomatic corps, and supporters of the United Seychelles party.

Speaking after taking the oath, the new Vice President pledged to work closely with the President in delivering the new administration’s agenda, with a focus on serving all Seychellois. He emphasised his commitment to the values of unity, transparency, and accountability, and called on all citizens to support the new government as it embarks on its mandate.

The swearing-in marked another key step in the transition of power following the October 11 presidential election runoff, which Dr Herminie won with 52.7 percent of the vote. The new administration is expected to be fully constituted in the coming days, with the appointment of ministers and other senior officials.
