Vilaz Kreol and Selebo Open as 40th Festival Kreol Celebrations Continue in Victoria

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The 40th edition of Festival Kreol continued in the capital, Victoria, on Saturday with the opening of the Vilaz Kreol and the start of the annual Selebo celebrations, which kicked off at 11am in the car park of the Stad Popiler. The Vilaz Kreol has been set up at the old children’s garden, opposite the International Conference Centre, and will run for the next eight days, featuring more than 40 stalls showcasing local food, drinks, crafts, clothing and souvenirs.

Among the vendors is Lucy Barra, who is selling a range of local products she has prepared herself, including passion fruit and bigarade juice, mango salad, nougat, banana cake, bigarade marmalade and papaya jam. She is inviting everyone to come and visit her stall over the coming days. At stall number 17, Vanessa Dorothe from Koralier is showcasing a range of products, including printed fabrics from Southern Africa in a variety of colours and high-quality materials. The boutique makes dresses, corsets and trousers for women, men and children, with prices starting from R90 for children’s clothes and R195 for men’s trousers.

Another vendor, Vanessa Estrada, is selling earrings and decorative items made from shells and resin, which she is customising for customers. Her sets range from R250 to R400. The festival is part of the broader Kreol Heritage Month, with cultural performances, music, and traditional activities continuing throughout the next week, culminating in the closing ceremony on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
