A New Chapter Begins Tomorrow: Dr Patrick Herminie to Be Inaugurated as Sixth President

VICTORIA, Seychelles — A new chapter in Seychelles’ history begins on Sunday when President-elect Dr Patrick Herminie is inaugurated in a ceremony starting at 5pm at the Stad Linite, Roche Caïman. According to the official programme released by the department of Foreign Affairs, Dr Herminie will arrive at the stadium shortly before 5pm, with the ceremony starting exactly at 5pm and lasting 70 minutes.

The programme will start with welcoming remarks by the master of ceremonies, followed by a reflection by Dr Herminie’s daughter, Dr Venessa Herminie. The first segment includes the performance of a song titled ‘Unity’ by Ziggy Adam, and a blessing by Bishop Danny Elizabeth of the Anglican Diocese of Seychelles, and Bishop Alain Harel and Father David Alcindor of the Catholic Diocese of Seychelles.

Among the symbolic presentations during the ceremony will be a copy of the Constitution — the supreme law of the Republic — to the new Head of State, a sabre from the Chief of Defence Forces, Brigadier Michael Rosette, to the new Commander-in-Chief, and the Medal of the Republic, which will be presented by outgoing President Wavel Ramkalawan. Dr Herminie was elected after defeating incumbent President Wavel Ramkalawan of the Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) party during the presidential runoff held on October 9, 10 and 11.

The ceremony is open to the public, with free transportation being provided by the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC). Monday October 27, 2025 has been declared a public holiday to mark the occasion. A large number of foreign dignitaries, including the Vice President of India, the Prime Ministers of Mauritius and Tanzania, and the Asantehene of the Kingdom of Ashanti in Ghana, are expected to attend.
