VICTORIA, Seychelles — International School Seychelles (ISS) celebrated Creole Day on Friday, October 17, 2025, with vibrant colours, music and a joyful display of Seychellois culture. The annual celebration brought together students and staff to honour the islands’ rich Creole heritage and promote cultural pride within the school community.
Throughout the day, students came dressed in traditional attire and took part in activities that showcased the spirit of Creole culture. The school grounds came alive with rhythmic beats, lively performances and local flavours that reflected the warmth and diversity of Seychelles. From traditional songs and dances, the event captured the essence of Creole identity, celebrating not only the language but also the customs, music and food that make Seychelles unique.
Executive head of ISS, Elodie Vallantine, commended the event, saying: ‘Creole Day is a special moment in our school calendar where we celebrate not only the beauty of the Seychellois culture but also the unity it inspires among our students. It’s a day that reminds us of the importance of community, heritage, and pride.’ As the Creole proverb goes, ‘Mon kontan sa gou Kreol’ — ‘I love this Creole flavour’ — the event was a beautiful reminder of the school’s commitment to nurturing pride in local culture while maintaining its international outlook.
