VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Citizens Democracy Watch Seychelles (CDWS) has commended the peaceful and transparent conduct of the second round of the 2025 presidential election, while making several recommendations to further strengthen the country’s democratic processes.
Presenting the organisation’s preliminary statement on the October 9–11 presidential runoff at the CEPS conference room on Tuesday afternoon, CDWS chairperson and head of mission Eline Moses said the mission’s observations covered all stages of the electoral process, from preparations to voting and counting.
The CDWS noted that polling stations opened on time on the main polling day, that the secrecy of the ballot was respected throughout, and that electoral officials handled the count transparently in the presence of party agents and observers. The mission also acknowledged the cooperation of voters, who turned out in good numbers despite the long weekend.
Among its recommendations, CDWS called for stronger civic and voter education in the run-up to future elections, particularly in the inner and outer islands, as well as clearer public communication on polling station allocation. The organisation also urged continued dialogue between the Electoral Commission, political parties and civil society to reinforce public confidence in the process.
