US and LDS Head to Presidential Run-Off on October 9-11

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The presidential election is heading to a second round after no candidate secured the required majority of votes, the Electoral Commission of Seychelles (ECS) announced on Sunday morning.

United Seychelles (US) candidate Dr Patrick Herminie and the incumbent Wavel Ramkalawan of Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) will go head to head in the run-off, scheduled for October 9, 10 and 11, 2025. Dr Herminie garnered 30,736 votes, representing 48.8 percent of valid votes, while Mr Ramkalawan secured 29,230 votes, or 46.4 percent.

Announcing the official results at a ceremony held at around 9.30am on Sunday, ECS chairperson Wendy Didon stated: ‘In accordance with section 37 (1) of the Elections Act and the Constitution of Seychelles, I hereby announce that no candidate has secured the required majority of votes to be elected as President of the Republic of Seychelles.’

Mrs Didon added that the ECS will proceed to a second ballot between the two highest polling candidates, in line with the law. The other six candidates together received the remainder of the valid votes cast.
