Smooth Start as 2,576 Cast Their Votes at English River Special Station

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The English River Special Polling Station, which was expected to cater for 3,474 voters, recorded the participation of 2,576 registered voters at the time of closing on Thursday afternoon.

Three rooms had been set up to accommodate the voters: the main one in the staff room at the English River secondary school, the second in the school’s library, and a third at the La Rosière creche. The English River station, which was under the supervision of electoral officer Jerina Ah-Tive, joined by three deputy electoral officers, catered for voters working in essential services, including members of the police force, medical professionals and media personnel, as well as people who would be travelling for medical reasons and would not be in the country on the main polling day.

The station opened at 7am as planned and was instantly met with a long line of voters that extended to the nearby English River health centre. Voters were in high spirits, with some expressing how impressed they were with how fast the process was compared to the last election in 2020.

Although some voters complained about being moved around while in the wrong queue, they expressed satisfaction with the way the matter was resolved. Officials said the smooth operation of the station was a result of thorough preparation by the Electoral Commission of Seychelles and the dedication of polling staff.
