VICTORIA, Seychelles — Eight families were presented with keys to their new residence in the district of Pointe Larue on Friday afternoon, marking the successful completion of Phase One of the ‘Vilaz Pozitivite’ housing initiative.
President Wavel Ramkalawan, alongside Lands and Housing Minister Billy Rangasamy, unveiled a commemorative plaque at the ceremony, which was attended by senior government officials, the elected member of the National Assembly for the district, and the new tenants. Among the eight new tenants was Marie Michelle Etienne, who has been on the waiting list for 19 years. ‘I cannot articulate the joy I feel upon receiving these keys,’ she said, thanking the ministry and all those involved in the project.
The Pointe Larue development forms part of the wider housing programme being delivered across the country, with the government reiterating its commitment to providing quality homes to families who have waited years for a roof of their own. Officials said the success of Phase One paves the way for the next phases of the project, expected to deliver additional units in the same district.
The new residents were reminded of their responsibility to maintain the properties and to foster a sense of community within the estate. Minister Rangasamy thanked the contractors and his team for delivering the project on schedule, and reaffirmed the government’s determination to keep building sustainable housing for Seychellois families.
