Ballot Paper Allocation for Mahé and Inner Islands Successfully Completed

VICTORIA, Seychelles — Ballot paper allocation for the 26 electoral areas on Mahé and the Inner islands has been completed successfully, the Electoral Commission of Seychelles (ECS) confirmed on Tuesday.

Ballot Control Officer Steve Thelermont said the exercise at the ECS headquarters in Mont Fleuri ended before 6pm on Tuesday afternoon. The process, which started on Monday morning, saw 14 electoral areas receive their booklets during the course of the day, and continued on Tuesday for the remaining 12 districts.

Mr Thelermont acknowledged that the operation experienced some delays, mainly because every single ballot is being counted carefully. ‘In the morning, we opened the sealed ballots in the presence of all political party representatives, who confirmed that nothing had been tampered with,’ he said, explaining that the counting and verification are being conducted in the presence of party representatives, election observers and ECS commissioners.

He noted that some misprinted ballots were detected during the check, typically involving a missing or extra page, and said the team would rather take time to see errors at the printing house than on election day. The allocation process is now complete for Mahé and the Inner islands, marking a critical step in the country’s preparation for the Presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for September 25-27, 2025.
