VICTORIA, Seychelles — Independent presidential candidate Ralph Volcère, a political activist and publisher, is contesting the September 2025 election in Seychelles with the backing of the One Seychelles political party. Party President Bernard Port-Louis is his running mate. Mr Volcère said his leadership journey began under the late resistance fighter Gerard Hoareau, who shaped him as a young man in both sports and politics.
On his priorities, Mr Volcère said he will declare war on corruption and focus on the economy. ‘Seychelles has regressed over the past five years, with increasing reliance on foreign interests and dwindling opportunities for Seychellois. We cannot call ourselves truly independent if our survival depends on the charity of others. I will focus on creating a Seychellois-led economy where our citizens are not just employees but also stakeholders,’ he stated, adding that wealth generated from local resources must circulate within national borders.
On values, Mr Volcère said integrity, fairness, patriotism, transparency and empathy will be the cornerstones of his leadership, and that he will govern consultatively while respecting the independence of the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary. On the rising cost of living, he argued for strengthening Seychellois buying power by raising real incomes, tackling middlemen and profiteers, and introducing tighter regulation to reduce costs. His guiding motto is to give power back to the people so that, together, they can shape the future.
