VICTORIA, Seychelles — President Wavel Ramkalawan has officially declared Saturday, September 27, 2025, a public holiday. The one-day holiday coincides with the country’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The order, made by the President on August 12, 2025, was gazetted on Monday, in accordance with the Public Holidays Act. Declaring election day a public holiday is not new in Seychelles, with similar measures taken previously for elections held in 2011, 2015, 2020 and 2023.
The decision ensures that voters across the islands are free to travel to their designated polling stations and to participate in the vote without the constraints of a working day. It also gives election officials, security personnel and volunteers the time required to set up polling stations, conduct the count and report results.
The Electoral Commission of Seychelles (ECS) has previously confirmed that the presidential and National Assembly elections will take place on September 25, 26 and 27, 2025. The 77,045 registered voters — 39,792 females and 37,253 males — will be able to cast their ballots at polling stations across Mahé, Praslin, La Digue and the outer islands.
