125 Candidates Confirmed for 2025 National Assembly Election

VICTORIA, Seychelles — A total of 125 candidates have been confirmed to take part in the 2025 National Assembly election. The Electoral Commission of Seychelles (ECS) confirmed the figure at the close of the second Nomination Day, after representatives of political parties and independent candidates took part in the official draw to determine the order of appearance of candidates on the ballot paper.

Chief Electoral Officer Manuella Amesbury said the commission had received a total of 127 submissions, with two being rejected. The validated list comprises 121 candidates from seven political parties and four independent candidates. The seven parties are Mouvman Lavwa Seselwa (MLS), Seychelles United Movement (SUM), United Seychelles (US), Laliberté (IBT), Lalyans Nouvo Sesel (LNS), Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) and the Seychelles People’s National Movement (SPNM).

Addressing the gathering attended by candidates, political party representatives, ECS officials, elections staff, observers, members of the media and invited guests, Mrs Amesbury emphasised the commission’s commitment to ensuring a transparent and peaceful election. She explained that independent candidates, irrespective of the district in which they are standing, will all appear in the same position on the ballot paper. The National Assembly elections are scheduled for September 25, 26 and 27, prompting representatives of political parties and independent candidates from all 26 constituencies to strategise on their campaigns in the run-up to polling day.
