VICTORIA, Seychelles — Bishop Danny Elizabeth, the newly ordained fifth Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Seychelles, paid a courtesy call on President Wavel Ramkalawan at State House yesterday morning, following his consecration on Sunday at the St Paul’s Cathedral. The meeting, which also marked Bishop Elizabeth’s first official mission to the highest office of the land, was an opportunity to discuss the future role of the church, social projects and the upcoming national elections.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Bishop Elizabeth said the Anglican Church is committed to maintaining the relationship with the government established by his predecessors over the past decade. The church plans to engage in social projects, particularly in the area of youth and child development, with the support of the government, he shared. They also discussed the recertification of the St Agnes Chapel at Roche Caiman, which is expected to be reopened on Remembrance Day, November 11, 2025.
“The Church and the state have a good working relationship, which has been a tradition for over 50 years and we want to maintain that tradition, now, and for the future.” Bishop Elizabeth reiterated that his episcopacy will be grounded on three key pillars: the church as a prophetic voice, active engagement in evangelism, and being firmly rooted in the word of God. With regard to the general elections in September, he said they both emphasised the need for a free, fair, and peaceful process, and urged leaders and candidates to exercise the discipline necessary to ensure this.
