VICTORIA, Seychelles — Regis Francourt, a well-known figure in Seychelles’ political arena, has officially announced his intention to stand as an independent candidate for President in the general elections scheduled for September 25, 26 and 27, 2025. The 64-year-old tourism and finance specialist is the ninth Seychellois to enter the race for the country’s highest office.
His running mate is 63-year-old Gelage Hoareau, a human resources specialist. Their motto for the election is ‘Pour anmenn solisyon – fodre sanz direksyon’ (‘Change of direction – for better solution’). Speaking at a press conference held yesterday afternoon at the office of the Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles (Ceps) at Orion Mall, Mr Francourt said they are not entering the election to focus on the shortcomings of previous or current governments, but rather to present concrete solutions to the problems facing citizens.
Mr Francourt said that through their many visits across the country, they have observed growing public frustration with the current state of governance. He outlined plans to revive the tourism sector and ensure that wealth generated is cascaded down to the workers, and use the tax system to encourage large hotels to employ more locals. He also spoke extensively about the energy system, saying a primary goal is to substantially reduce electricity costs for both domestic and business users, and to explore the generation of hydrogen to open up new business opportunities.
