Hospital Fund Committee Reports R5 Million Raised Locally and Abroad

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The New Seychelles Hospital fund-raising committee has reported that a total of R5 million in local and foreign currencies has been collected so far, with contributions continuing to come in from individuals, organisations and the corporate sector. Treasurer Francis Mondon said the committee is encouraged by the steady flow of donations and is exploring other projects to raise additional funds for the construction of the new hospital, one of the key national initiatives for 2025.

Among the most recent contributions is a cheque of R123,000 from the Seychelles National Choir, following a concert at State House, and R82,000 collected through a donation box placed at the Seychelles Trading Company (STC) Hypermarket for over a year. AMSA Medical Centre Seychelles has pledged R5 million to the fund, of which R500,000 has already been paid, with the balance expected in the coming months. The government has also pledged R660 million towards the project.

Construction of a new hospital was announced by President Wavel Ramkalawan in his National Day speech in June 2023. Mr Mondon urged everyone to join in supporting the project, noting that ‘things are looking positive’ and that the new facility will benefit all Seychellois. The committee has thanked donors for their continued support and is encouraging further contributions through the dedicated bank account at the Central Bank of Seychelles, as well as through the various events and initiatives being organised across the country.
