United Seychelles Names Herminie and Pillay as Presidential Ticket

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The United Seychelles (US) party has announced that its leader, Patrick Herminie, will be joined by Sebastien Pillay as the party’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates respectively, contesting the September 2025 elections. The pair were nominated and approved during the party’s 38th Annual Congress, held at the International Conference Centre on Saturday under the theme ‘Victory is assured’ (Laviktwar i Asire). Alongside them, 26 candidates for the legislative elections were also given the seal of approval.

Dr Herminie, addressing supporters, conveyed gratitude for their trust and called on them to do their part to elect US into power for a brighter future. He spoke about the state of the economy, education, healthcare and social policies, and their impacts on society. ‘In three months, we will have the opportunity to put an end to the suffering of our people. We must seize it, because Seychelles has been crying too much,’ he stated, adding that the US is more than ready to form the government in September and to build a new society underpinned by unity, togetherness, compassion and solidarity.

Dr Herminie outlined several priorities a US administration would tackle, including measures to reduce the cost of living, initiating a dialogue on the recommendations of the Truth, Reconciliation and National Unity Commission (TRNUC), and bringing closure to the victims affected by the CCCL explosion on December 7, 2023. Other promises include increasing retirement benefits for elder citizens, reducing bus fares, and making the thirteenth month salary and long-service allowances benefits for employees. The party’s manifesto titled ‘For the Many, Not the Few’ was also unveiled during the congress, and 17 of the 26 candidates are standing for the first time as National Assembly members.
