VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles has submitted its updated Nationally Determined Contribution, known as NDC 3.0, outlining both mitigation and adaptation targets for the period 2015-2030, in line with the country’s commitments under the Paris Agreement. The submission follows the country’s first INDC in 2015, which became its first NDC upon ratification of the Paris Agreement in 2016.
According to the Climate Change Adaptation Trust (SeyCCAT), the third NDC aims to elevate the country’s climate ambition and align it with the broader development agenda. Key objectives are to strengthen mitigation and adaptation targets, build resilience across key sectors, and ensure that climate action is integrated into national planning and budgeting. The submission reflects the need for enhanced ambition and action in the face of escalating climate impacts.
The NDC 3.0 was developed through a consultative process involving government agencies, civil society, the private sector, and development partners. The government said the updated plan will inform the country’s negotiating position at international climate fora, and will guide the allocation of climate finance to priority areas. Officials said the next step is to develop a detailed implementation plan, with clear timelines, indicators, and responsibilities for each sector.
