VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Seychelles National Alliance Party (SNAP) has officially changed its name to Lalyans Nouvo Sesel, and will now back Alain St Ange and Daniella Payet as their presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the upcoming elections. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the National Library yesterday morning.
Cyril Lau-Tee, the party chairman, explained that Mr St Ange and Mrs Payet, who had announced their independent candidacy in February, joined forces with SNAP on account of the inequality between independent candidates and political parties. “Following their announcement, we worked closely with each other. We then discovered that independent candidates do not have the same chances as political parties when it comes to media access and recognition by the Electoral Commission,” he stated.
The rebranding marks a significant moment in the lead-up to the 2025 presidential and legislative elections scheduled for September. The party said the new name reflects a renewed vision and a fresh start for the movement, which will now be known as Lalyans Nouvo Sesel. The party’s leadership expressed confidence that the new alliance will resonate with voters and bring a fresh perspective to the political landscape. The candidates are expected to present their manifesto in the coming weeks, focusing on unity, good governance, and national development.
