
VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles’ capital Victoria will vibe to the reggae beat this coming Saturday as two legendary South African bands, Lucky Dube Band and O’Yaba, unite to perform at the music stadium. The bands, who arrived in the country on Tuesday, gave details about their upcoming show in a press conference at the National Arts and Craft Council on Wednesday. The Lucky Dube Band is back after their two performances in February this year on Praslin and Mahé, while O’Yaba is back after their last show 27 years ago.
The main organiser, MONGY Imports, said so far everything is going according to plan. The company’s representative, Graham Moncherry, said they are now more experienced after the February shows. ‘We can say the process to get the bands to Seychelles was a smooth one,’ shared Mr Moncherry, adding that ticket sale has also been very positive. Seychelles Breweries Limited (SBL) is the main sponsor and has exclusive right to promote the event under its brand Johnny Walker Blonde.
Fans should expect one hour and 15 minutes of performance by O’Yaba, which is popular with hits such as Armageddon, Mr Music Man, Tomorrow Nation and Running Away among others, while the Lucky Dube Band will be dazzling the fans for almost three hours. A member of the Lucky Dube Band, Skipper Shabalala, said they will be adding new songs to the line-up as well as some performed during the first show. The lead singer of O’Yaba band, Alexis Faku, has promised fans that Saturday’s show will make them reminisce about the last performance 27 years ago. Normal ticket is R500, whereas VIP ticket is R1,000.
