Herminie Vows to Dismantle ‘System That Makes Rich Richer’ at US Fair

VICTORIA, Seychelles — The United Seychelles (US) party is the strongest political force in the country, party president Dr Patrick Herminie told supporters at a political fair held at Marie-Jeanne Estate in the district of Baie Sainte Anne Praslin on Saturday afternoon. The event, preceded by a motorcade from Anse Kerlan through Grand Anse, Consolation, Baie Sainte Anne, Côte d’Or and ending at Marie-Jeanne Estate, drew supporters from all three inner islands and signals the formal start of the party’s campaign for the September 27, 2025 elections.

In his address, Dr Herminie said the motorcade was not just a celebration but a powerful statement that on September 27, 2025, the US party will take over Grand Anse Praslin, Baie Sainte Anne and La Digue districts. ‘US is the strongest political force in the country. The mobilisation that we see today must continue on a bigger scale across the country. On September 27, we will put an end to the system which has been introduced in our country in the last four and a half years, where the rich ones become wealthier and the poor remain poor.’

Dr Herminie pledged to reintroduce the 13th month salary, long-service benefits, and to bring the retirement age back to 63 years. He also said the US would oppose any move to set up overseas voting stations. ‘We ask the head of state to stop and go back to the people of Seychelles who elected him as president in 2020, and our nation will judge him on his performance. We cannot suffer the consequences of incompetence of this government and allow people from overseas to decide on the future of our country.’ Musicians from Praslin and famous artists from across the country entertained the crowd.
