VICTORIA, Seychelles — The Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC) of the National Assembly has toured the facilities of the Seychelles Parks and Gardens Authority (SPGA), beginning with its headquarters at Ile Du Port and followed by its command centre at Ile Persévérance. The visit formed part of the committee’s ongoing scrutiny of government entities and was led by FPAC chairperson Hon Sebastien Pillay, in the presence of other members, SPGA chief executive Allen Cedras and the management team.
The SPGA management presented an overview of the organisation and insight into the authority’s technical operations, while other staff explained the daily operations, diverse revenue streams, and the various programmes and initiatives of the authority. At the command centre, the FPAC delegation was able to view the CCTV facilities in place to enhance monitoring of the national parks.
Speaking after the tour, Hon Pillay said the visit was important to conduct the review and see how things were being implemented since the last hearing. ‘On a financial viewpoint, we are happy to see that certain things have been done. However, there are also some concerns based on what was presented to us today. For example, the loss of some revenue streams following the introduction of the environment levy,’ he explained. The committee will use the findings from the visit as part of its broader review of SPGA’s performance and financial management.
